Imperial Archives in the Palace museum

Located on the east side of the Nanchizi Street, Beijing, it was constructed in the 15th year of the Jiajing period (1536) as the imperial archives to store historical documents and records. The six-meter-thick walls are built with bricks and stones and pierced with stone windows in the north and south, so that the indoor temperature could be stable and air could flow at the same time.Besides, the Archives are armed with furnishings against fire, moisture and insects. With official documents in them, the camphor wood chests wrapped with gilded copper are placed on a one-meter-high white marble stand. With all these well-designed conditions and environment, the imperial documents can be kept for long time.
