Imperial Ancestral Temple in the Palace museum
Located on the east of the Forbidden City, Imperial Ancestral Temple was built in the 18th year of the Yongle period in the Ming dynasty (1420) with the function of worshiping ancestors. He emperor would come here on the first day of lunar July, at he end of lunar December as well as in the first month of every season, showing that the most important filial duty should be respecting ancestors. In lunar September of the first year of the Shunzhi Period (1644), Dorgon placed the memorial tablets of Nurgaci and Huangtaiji here in order to show that the Qing had finished the unfulfilled wish of the ancestors in conquering the Central Plains.
