Gate of Origination

Gate of Origination in the Palace museum

With the same shape as the Gate of Heavenly Peace, the Gate of Origination has a pair of ornamental columns in its south. The east and west low buildings on the sides of the imperial road adding to the Meridian Gate were the offices of the six mimstries of the Ming and Qing dynasties. With its side gates respectively leading to the Altar to the Gods of Earth and Grain and Imperial Ancestral Temple, the Gate was the place to store the articles used by the emperor for his hunting, touring and offering sacrifices in the Ming and Qing dynasties.
