Jade Boulder of Da Yu Taming Waters of the Forbidden City
There is ajade boulder in the back room of the Hall of Joyful Longevity. It is named “Da Yu Taming the Waters” with a height of 224 centimeters, width of 96 centimeters and weight of 5,350 kilograms. This jade of Hetian was transported from Xinjiang to Beijing, going through a journey of 4,000 kilometers and exhausted lots oflabor, resources and finance. When the jade ar-rived Beijing, the craftsmen in Ruyi Guan, the Imperial Paint-ing Studio made the design and moldedwith wax. This wax model together with the jade was moved to Yangzhou, where the craftsmen carved it. It was then mmoved back to the Forbidden City and placed in the Chamber of Joyful Longevity. It took ten years to complete such a huge project.
