Painted Enamel Pot with Copper Body and Handle in the Forbidden City

Made by“the imperial workshops of the Hall of Mental Cultivation”, this pot was in octagonal shape with a painted enamel and aventurine handle. The patterns of landscape, bird and flower on the pot were all painted by famous painters in the court. The design was avant-garde and artistic. With pattems of tradi-tional Chinese painting in a westernstyle pot, it is a clever combination of the eastem and westem cultures. Different techniques like metal production, enamel firing, glass pro-cessing and painting were adopted in one obj ect. It is an excellent workmade in the Qianlong period (1736-1795).
