Palace of Universal Happiness
Palace of Universal Happiness in the Forbidden City
The Palace of Universal Happiness in the Forbidden City is located in the northwest of the Six Western Palaces. It was the very Place where Emperor Qianlong (1736-1795) burned incense and played the qin. In the east wing of the Palace, the Emperor preserved several precious qin, among which the most famous ones are“Singing of Phoenix” of the Song (960-1279) and “Immortal Music” of the Ming (1368-1644). The Emperor loved the qin so much that he wrote the plaque “The Lodge of the Qin Virtue” himself. In the Jiaqing (1796-1820) and Daoguang (1821-1850) periods, the emperors lived in the Palace for certain days after their fathers died.
Now the Palace is used to display an exhibition on the coup d’etat of Xinyou.
