Pavilion of Literary Profundity in the Forbidden City

The Pavilion of Literary Profundity in the Forbidden City was the storage for the precious books presented to the Ming emperors as gifts. When Li Zicheng took Beijing, he had the Pavilion burned down. It was not rebuilt till the 39th year of Qianlong’s reign (1774). In the 47th year of Qianlong’s reign (1782), the compilation of Complete Library in Four Divisions was completed and it was put in storage here. In order to manage and improve the Complete Library, several people were selected from the Grand Secretariat and Imperial Academy to do proofreading.
