Hall of Union and Peace in the Forbidden City

Located between the Palace of Heavenly Purity and the Palace f Earthly Tranquility, the Hall of Union and Peace in the Forbidden City implied that the union of the Heaven and the Earth would bring peace of ang and yin and expressed best wishes for the harmony of the emperor and the empress In the Hall, a plaque with the inscription of “Wu Wei” (Non ction) by Emperor Kangxi is hung above the throne. On the eft is a water clock made in the Qianlong period (1736-1 795); on the right is a chiming clock made y the Imperial Workshops in the Jiaqing period (1796-1820), The Hall was the place for the empress to accept felicitations on festivals. In the Shunzhi period 1 644-1661), an iron plate prohibiting the eunuchs from interfering in political affairs was set in the Hall order to avoid the disadvantages of eunuch’s seizing power in the former dynasty.
