The Inner Golden Water River passes the Square before the Gate of Supreme Harmony in the Forbidden City and is spanncd with five marble bridges. In the north of the Square is the Gate of Supreme Harmony; in the east and west are the Ming and Qing government offices, eg.Grand Secretariat, Daily Records Office and Translation Cham- bcr that was responsible for translating Manchu and Han Chi-nese documents.
