Hall of Ancestral Worship in the Forbidden City
The Hall of Ancestral Worship in the Forbidden City was built in the early Ming and rebuilt in 1656, the I3th year of the Shunzhi reign. It was the family temple where emperors could offer sacrifice to their ancestors. The Emperor and Empress would come and pay homage here in every important festival. The Emperor also came ere on the anniversaries of the deaths of his father and mother show his sadness and memory. In addition, before the wedding ceremony, the Emperor would report here to his ancestors the background and character of the new empress and would take her to pay homage here to the ancestors after the Wedding Ceremony.
