Arrow Pavilion in the Forbidden City

Manchu started their rule of China with equitation and archery.

Though living in the Forbidden City, the Qing Emperor ordered not to forget the old traditions. The Arrow Pavilion was built outside the Gate of Prospering Fortune to remind the descendents not to forget that their ancestors won the Country on horseback and to keep field practice. It is here that emperors reviewed the Imperial Martial Arts Examination.

The Arrow Pavilion is now the Visitor Center of the Palace Museum.
