Lodge of Crimson Snow in the Forbidden City

The Lodge of Crimson Snow in the Forbidden City was a favorite study of Emperor Qianlong. Its name came from the five crabapple trees grown in front of the Lodge. Unfortunately, they were substituted in the late Qing dynasty by mock oranges, which, together with peonies, symbolize peace and prosperity and create the auspicious atmosphere peculiar to imperial garden.
