Hall of Imperial Peace in the Forbidden City

The Hall of Imperial Peace in the Forbidden City enshrined the God of Murky Warrior in Daoism, i.e. The Water God and Guardian Spirit of the North. As the architecture in the Forbidden City is mainly made of wood, the Water God was devoutly worshiped in order to prevent fires. Especially as great fires often broke out in the imperial Palace in the Jiajing period (J522-1566), the Jiajing emperor believed in Daoism piously and worshiped the God of Murky Warrior as fire suppressor. He also had "Tian Yi Zhi Men" inscribed on the front gate of the Hall's enclosed walls. The words were excerpted from The Book of Changes, blessing the Forbidden City to be free from fire.
