Golden Water River in the Forbidden City

There are two golden water rivers in the Forbidden City in Beijing. One is called Inner Golden Water River, located at the back of the Meridian Gate; he other is known as Outer Golden Water River, located before Gate of Heavenly Peace. The former meanders over 2,000 meters in the Imperial Palace and is spanned with 21 bridges and over 10 culverts. Its practical functions include draining rain, providing water source and extinguishing fire. Besides, it is an indispensable element for beautifying the Forbidden City and humidifying the air.
