Palace of Eternal Harmony in the Forbidden City

Among all the consorts who lived in the Palace of Eternal Harmony in the Forbidden City, the Honorable Concubine De of Emperor Kangxi had most extraordinary experience. He had been living in the Palace of Eternal Harmony since the very moment she entered the Forbidden City. She gave birth here to the fourth prince Yinzhen (future Emperor yongzheng ) and the fourteenth prince Yinti. After her eldest son became emperor, she refused to move to the Palace of Benevolent Tranquility to enjoy the dignity an empress dowager should have enjoyed and died suddenly in the Palace of Eternal Harmony. The sudden death was left behind as a mysterious case in the history of the Qing Inner Court.
